Janet Jay is an Austin-based freelance writer. Born in California and raised in Texas, Janet went to Carnegie Mellon University and triple-majored in Professional Writing, Creative Writing and Social & Cultural History. During college, she interned as an editor at Timberwolf Press, in public relations for Carnegie Mellon’s Department of Computer Science, and finally, worked for the Associate Director of Media Relations for CMU’s College of Fine Arts.
After graduation she moved to Knoxville, TN, where she worked as a Development Assistant at DoubleJay Creative, at the time a full-service production company with web, print, and TV/video divisions, as well as an affiliated film division named Dogwood Entertainment. She also wrote promotional pieces for the charities Knoxville’s Holidays on Ice and Random Acts of Flowers. While in Knoxville, Janet was also able to devote more time to journalism, publishing stories and photographs in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Knoxville Magazine, Metro Pulse, Everything Knoxville and other local publications.
Finally, Janet moved to Austin and made the jump to full-time freelancing. She began devoting more time to journalism while also attracting clients big and small who needed content or editing for their website or help producing other B2B and B2C communications.
